Marge Mount

"Mount's paintings invoke breathtaking images, utilizing the natural beauty of nature, while eulogizing the dignity and character of its inhabitants, bringing across the awe-inspiring vista and classical response to landscape."

Artist Statement

Like the trompe l’oeil revival in the visual arts from the eighteenth century,
my eye is drawn towards the deliberate confounding of the invented and the real.
This has become a new threshold of vitalism in my approach to painting.
To achieve this three dimensional effect, I continue adding extra layers of
paint using various glazes, until the finished surface becomes  luminous.

(note: trompe l’oeil is French for “deceive the eye”)
